The model, explained
Ask any sporting director where the best value in European football lies and the answer is almost always the same: Portugal and the Netherlands.
The model is remarkably similar in both countries — elite academies feeding first teams that trust teenagers, a league structure that gives them minutes, and a sell-on culture that turns development into profit.
The result is a conveyor belt that shows no sign of stopping: record transfer revenues for both leagues last summer, and a national-team depth chart that is the envy of much larger nations.
